CRES PTO presents the 5th & 6th Grade Spring Musical

Congratulations to all students who auditioned and received cast and crew roles! Read below for additional information:

Upcoming Dates:

Moonlit Wings Team:

Patty Kelleher (Director/Production Manager)

Jordyn Stewart (Choreographer / Associate Director)

Important Rehearsal & Participation Info (also sent by Jordyn Stewart via email):

  • Rehearsal Schedule: Attached you’ll also find the rehearsal schedule, and specific group numbers/songs/scenes. Please print and save this document on your fridge at home so you can refer to the document regularly. Any updates or changes will be sent out as needed. More information will be shared at the first rehearsal on Feb 10. The crew schedule will be sent out after the first rehearsal where we will decide what everyone will be doing.

  • Attendance: For your child to maintain their role, they must be present for all assigned rehearsals and performances. Missing more than 3 assigned rehearsals or tardies may result in reassignment of their role.

  • Technical Crew: If your child is not listed in the cast, they are part of the technical crew, as requested. Their behind-the-scenes duties will be assigned later during rehearsals, and they are expected to attend the first rehearsal on Feb 10.

  • Script, Music & Materials:

Click to access the Matilda Parents/Guardians Info Folder which will contain Accompaniment Music Tracks, Guide Vocals, a Scene by Scene Breakdown of who is called, and anything else you might need throughout the rehearsal process and show. We’ll always let you know when something has been added for you to know when to look.

Students will receive a physical copy of the script at the first rehearsal. Students should begin listening to the music tracks at home and learning the songs outside of rehearsal.

  • Rehearsal Gear: Please remind your child to bring a pencil and their script every day. Sneakers and comfortable pants or shorts are recommended for dancing (please, no dresses or skirts without shorts underneath).

  • 6th Graders: Given the complexity of some material, the 6th graders will take on a leadership/mentorship role within their group scenes and numbers, assisting others with choreography and song learning.

First Rehearsal Day:
We’ll kick off with a read-through of the script, and assign crew positions during our first rehearsal, scheduled on Tuesday, February 10 from 7:45am to 9:00am. Please review the attached schedule for all other dates/times.

Please arrive 5 minutes before rehearsal begins and make sure your child uses the restroom before signing in.

Parent/ Guardian FAQ Zoom Meeting:
There will be a zoom meeting on Feb 5th, the day after role confirmation is due. It is not mandatory, but if you would like, we will answer any questions you might have. If you can’t make it, I will leave a copy of some of the questions asked and any more you might have in your Matilda Parent/Guardian Info Folder.

Parent Frequently Asked Questions:

Does my child need any musical or theater experience to audition for a role in the musical?

No! The CRES PTO puts on the musical as a fun event to allow all our 5th and 6th graders to get experience with theater and musicals even if they haven't had it before. We hope this will give them the experience they need to feel confident in the case they want to continue pursuing theater when they get to Cooper Middle School!

Does everyone who auditions get a role in the musical?

We will work to get any child who is interested a role in the production. This may be in the form of a speaking role, onstage role, ensemble role, or backstage/tech role.

What roles are available if your child wants to only participate behind the scenes?

Students may choose to participate as backstage/tech only. These roles include stage setup, scene changes, audio, lighting, prop management, costume change help, among others.

Does my child need to audition if they only want to participate behind the scenes?

No they do not. But all forms still need to be filled out.

Does everyone who wants a behind the scenes role get one?

Yes they will! We'll make sure all of our behind the scenes crew will have ample things to do throughout the entire process.

What is the selection process to determine what role your child receives?

Moonlit Productions is 100% responsible for reviewing all audition videos and making the role selections. No CRES faculty, administrator or parent is involved in this process or decision.

What are the expectations for parents?

Please go over lines, songs, and dances with your child. Ample materials will be sent so they can review at home. As signing your child up for our show means you've agreed to 2 hours of volunteer time throughout our process. Whether that be during rehearsals or during our show times. We'd also ask that you share every email with your child as well, so they can get any information they'll need for rehearsals/show.

Are there understudies for each role?

No!  There are no understudies. If your child is selected for a role, please make sure they are committed to make all rehearsal and performance dates.
