Welcome Back!
Dear Families,
Welcome back and welcome to all new families! We hope everyone made it through the hot and rainy summer! By introduction, I’m this year’s PTO president and this is my third year at CRES (my daughter is starting 2nd grade!). I have loved experiencing all things Colvin Run (CRES) the past couple of years and am eager to make this year another great one.
Colvin Run is a special place. Mr. Junge and his team are incredible, and it’s a joy to support them. At CRES, our emphasis is on “Shaping the Future” for our children by giving them a firm foundation. This begins with the strong academic program run by our dedicated faculty and extends to educational and cultural experiences supported by the PTO, both financially and through our parent volunteers.
The PTO supports our school through enrichment programs, community events, and fundraising. The CRES PTO has a solid history of programming in place including:
🎨 Enrichment Programs - Before & After School Programs (BASA), Academic Teams, ArtPlus, 5th & 6th grade Musical, Grade-Level Character Education Programs
🎉 Community Events - Movie Night (coming up 9/5!), Culturama, Bingo Night, STEAM Night, Spring Book Fair and the Talent Show
🍎 Teacher & Staff Support - Room Parents to support each classroom and as much appreciation for teachers, faculty, staff & bus drivers as we can give!
Two areas I’m especially excited to grow this year:
- Encouraging parents that it’s “ok to delay” smartphones & social media both at CRES, and with our Langley pyramid schools
- Having more parent-focused events to build our amazing community (new family gatherings, coffees, happy hours)
Please consider the PTO an important link to being engaged in your child’s education. We would love to have all our families participate. Your involvement WILL make a difference in your child’s experience. We ask you to do this in two ways:
Volunteer | We always need volunteers! We understand this is an uncertain time with work and schedules, so know that any level of help is appreciated. Working full-time? Help from your computer or during your commute. At home? Volunteer in the classroom or at events. Busy schedule? Pitch in for specific events, or help us coordinate with a few vendors. |
Join & Donate! |
We try to make it easy: $25 to join the PTO, and a $140 donation per student. We know this sounds steep, especially for larger families, but your child could not have the same experience at CRES without this donation. 100% of this money goes back to CRES to support 100% of our students. This year is a critical year for us. Many of you know FCPS had budget cuts for the first time in years that are impacting staffing across the county, including at CRES. Last year, we had ~70% of families participate, but I know we can do way better than that. Please join the PTO and make your donation today! |
I can’t wait to meet you! Parents bring such great energy to our school, and I’d love to hear your ideas too. You can reach me at president@crespto.org.
On behalf of the PTO Board, welcome to the Colvin Run school community.
