WELCOME TO THE FALL 2025 BASA PROGRAM - Please Read!
1) See below for your session dates and location
2) Safety & Weekly Attendance
- A Change-of-Transportation (“pink slip”) form must be submitted online EACH WEEK for your child to attend BASA.
- Do not bulk submit; a new form must be generated each week.
- If no pink slip is submitted, the BASA Coordinator will assume your child is following their normal dismissal (bus, Kiss & Ride, etc.).
- Students sign in with the instructor at the start of each class. If a student does not check in and a pink slip was submitted, we will call you.
- If possible, please also let the instructor know directly if your child will be absent.
3) Pick-Up Procedures
- Parents/guardians must pickup their child at 5:15pm. (*Chess goes until 5:30pm)
- Instructors cannot stay late, so timely pickup is essential.
4) Weather-Related Cancellations
- If school is canceled or delayed, all morning BASA classes are canceled.
- If school is canceled or closes early, all afternoon BASA classes are canceled.
- No separate BASA cancellation notice will be sent for FCPS weather-related closings.

Through math games and hands-on activities kids learn about these and other key financial concepts like money, budgeting and saving. Students will also learn the basic concepts of philanthropy and donating to charity. And, everyone will make their very own piggy bank to take home! Grade K-3.
*Go Long Flag Football – Huddle Up! Mondays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Overtime Athletics(OTA) | $195 for 8 sessions. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FLAG FOOTBALL!? Get in the game with Go Long Flag Football, where every kid has a chance to run, catch, pass, and score! This action-packed program introduces players to the fundamentals of one of the most popular sports in the country — flag football — in a fun and inclusive environment.

*Mathcounts Tuesdays 8:00-9:00am
Instructor: Xiang Yin I $195 for 15 sessions (Fall registration only; classes continue into Winter Session) MATHCOUNTS at CRES is a math enrichment program, led by parent volunteers, that provides exposure to competition math based on the official MATHCOUNTS Competition Series curriculum and materials. MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a national program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement. Instruction will cover concepts ranging from: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, quadratics, number theory and more. Students will also imitate the 4 levels of competition through Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown rounds. Grade 6 only.
*Crocheting Tuesdays 8:00-9:00am
CRES Instructor: Ms. Zavrel and Ms. Daneshkhah | $175 for 8 sessions (materials included). Mix learning a lifelong skill with service learning! Students will learn how to crochet a hat, scarf, or blanket while also participating in a community donation of blankets. The crocheted blankets will be donated to local families in need through our local emergency rescue offices. Students will learn basic crochet stitches, common motifs and patterns. Grades 3-6.
*GAGA – Dodge, Dip & Dominate! Tuesdays 8:00-9:00am
Instructor: Overtime Athletics(OTA) | $195 for 8 sessions. Step into the pit and get ready for fast feet, quick reflexes, and nonstop fun — it’s GAGA time! Known as the “kinder, gentler dodgeball,” Gaga is an action-packed game of agility, awareness, and friendly competition. Players dodge, duck, swat, and leap their way through the game, aiming to be the last one standing — and cheering each other on the whole way.. Grades: K-3
*Chess Tuesdays 4:15-5:30pm
Instructor: Coach Albert | $215 for 15 sessions (materials included). Coach Albert returns to coach the CRES Chess Club. This club is offered in two 15-class sessions, every Tuesday that school is in session. Students will move from learning the basics of chess to a variety of competition levels with their peers. Several tournaments will be offered throughout the year. All levels of experience are welcome. Please note that registration for the first 15-week session is in the Fall, and registration for the second 15-week session is in the Winter. This class runs until 5:30pm. Grades 2-6.

CRES Instructor: Mr. Noel | $150 8 sessions Join Mr. Noel for a fun and energetic basketball program! Players will build fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork through engaging drills and games. Whether your child is new to the sport or looking to sharpen their skills, this class emphasizes sportsmanship, confidence, and a love of the game. All experience levels are welcome! Grades 4-6
*LEGO Building Club Tuesdays 4:15-5:15pm
CRES Instructors: Ms. Moore | $160 8 sessions (materials included). Show your creativity as you build LEGO creations. Each week will offer a different project theme, including Boat Races (build a sailboat to race with box fan “wind”), building a Bridge that can withstand certain weights, Tree Forts, and building while blindfolded. While having fun with LEGOS, students will find their inner designer, engineer or inventor. This is the ideal class for any LEGO-maniac! Grades K-2.
*Garden Club Tuesdays 4:15-5:15pm
CRES Instructor: Mr. Bittner and Ms. Beisel | $175 8 sessions. Get ready to dig into the CRES gardens while learning about plants and identifying the Character shapes connected to the garden. Hands-on activities involve (1) planting and weeding the raised garden beds, (2) dissecting flowers and seed pods, (3) identifying native trees and plants, (4) exploring the value of native pollinators, (5) learning about plant and monarch butterfly life cycles, and (6) planning for the garden's future. Grades 2-6
*Run Club Wednesdays 8:15-9:00am
CRES Instructors: Ms. Bunch & Ms. Franklin | $200 8 sessions. Fall is the perfect time to get outdoors and in shape! Come Wednesday mornings to train as part of the Colvin Runners. Students will build endurance and confidence and will learn to push themselves further than they thought possible, while having fun with their friends. They will build towards an unofficial 5K by the end of the session at Colvin Run. A Colvin Runners t-shirt is included. Please note 8:15am start time. Grades 3-6.

Instructor: Mudskippers Pottery | $215 for 8 sessions. Join Mudskippers Pottery as we explore the exciting world of impressionism. Learn about how these famous artists changed the work of art using their imagination and explosions of color. In this class you’ll create pinch pots, coil pots and slab hand-built pottery from start to finish. Grade 2-6.

CRES Instructor: Ms. Wiseman | $160 for 8 sessions. Get your painting fingers ready! Collaborate with your peers to design a CRES mural outside of the art room. Students will work together to develop a creative idea for a mural design and use painting techniques to produce a beautiful CRES mural. Grade 4-6

CRES Instructor: Ms. Dunning | $150 for 8 sessions. Calling all second and third graders. Come join Mrs. Dunning reading and reviewing new books in the library. We will work in groups and use Canva and Slides to create digital reviews for the books we read. Our reviews will help guide our friends in their book selection in the library!! Grade 2-3

Instructor: NoVA Fencing Club | $200 for 8 sessions. Classes are conducted in the discipline of epee. Students will use standard fencing gear approved by the U.S. Fencing Organization. Fencing foils are lighter, more flexible and easier for children to handle. Students will focus on the fundamentals including footwork, handwork, strategy and rules of fencing. Classes will include group exercises as well as drills in pairs and bouting. Age-appropriate games and activities build on conditioning, speed and endurance and also emphasize critical thinking and quick decision-making. At the end, a tournament will be held. All levels of experience are welcome. Grades 1-6

Former CRES grad instructor: Isaac Bockman | $150 for 4 sessions. The Young Investors Club is a small-group club open to 5th and 6th grade students interested in learning about investing. Students will learn how stocks work, what drives prices, and how to make smart investment choices through games, discussions, and simulations. They will explore key investment concepts such as risk vs. reward, diversification, and long-term growth. Each student will learn how to research a real company and build a mock portfolio. The club will be led by a former CRES student, now a Langley High School student, along with a parent. Grade 5- 6

Instructor: Young Rembrandts| $190 for 8 sessions. Let’s make this back-to-school season a masterpiece and cheerful! Young Rembrandts’ drawing lessons will ignite your child’s creativity and sharpen their artistic skills.
