Class Descriptions

 

Monday PM Play Club - Mondays 4:15-5:15pm 

CRES Instructors: CRES PTO Ms. Rae Chukitkosol | $80 for 8 sessions.

Play Club offers unstructured, mixed-age free play for K-6 CRES students on and around the CRES playground (indoors during bad weather).  Kids enjoy open-ended activities with free-play toys — think balls, hula hoops, jump ropes, cones, building blocks, the rainbow parachute, and more!  The supervisor act as a “hands-off lifeguard”—present for safety but letting kids lead their own play. Potential benefits for kids include increased socialization and conflict-resolution skills, more physical activity, boosted creativity and confidence, reduced anxiety and behavioral issues, less screen time and more outdoor fun!  No parent volunteering is required for this session, however parents are still welcome to come witness the joy and glee on their kids’ faces anytime.

Grades K-6. 

 

Green Wand Magic - Mondays 4:15- 5:15pm
Instructor: The Ultimate Magic Academy| $295 for 8 sessions (materials included).

Get ready to take an amazing adventure into the exciting world of magic. Learn how to teleport objects across the room, find hidden magical treasures and levitate a cup of popcorn just to name a few. In this course students will learn the three parts that make up a magic trick with a special focus on presentation. Whether it’s their first time on the field or they’re already soccer superstars, every child will learn new skills, build confidence, while having a blast.

Pickleball – a cross between ping pong, tennis, and chess—is the fastest growing sport in the country! Come ready for some fun learning the ins and outs of this active pastime.  Throughout the session, you will build hand-eye coordination while learning how to hit serves, volleys, dinks, and lobs.  Looking forward to seeing you hit the courts at CRES!

CRES Garden Club - Tuesdays 4:15- 5:15pm

Instructors: Mr. Bittner & Mrs. Beisel | $185 for 8 sessions

Get ready to dig into the CRES gardens while preparing for the SOL Science unit on plants and identifying the Character shapes connected to the garden. Hands-on activities involve (1) NEW  “Edge of Space Missions and Beyond” program within NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Solar System Ambassador team - our seeds will go up with a payload to outer space in April, returning to us in May to plant in a test garden bed, (2) dissecting flowers and seed pods, (3) identifying native trees and plants, (4) exploring the value of native pollinators, and(5) building a habitat garden for Virginia's state butterfly, the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

Fast Break Basketball - Tuesdays 4:15- 5:15pm
Instructor: Over Time Athletics| $180 for 6 sessions

Hustle. Handle. Hoop. Get in the game with Fast Break Basketball, the ultimate intro-to-hoops program where energy meets fundamentals! Whether your child is picking up a ball for the first time or already has a crossover move, this program is all about building confidence, coordination, and game-time skills — through fast-paced drills and fun-focused play.

Colvin Runner Run Club - Wednesdays 8:15-9:00am 

CRES Instructors: Ms. Bunch & Ms. Franklin | $215 for 8 sessions.

Improve overall fitness and running endurance! Each week we will work on our fitness, running skills, and build towards running a 5k at the final session. A Colvin Runners t-shirt is included. Please note 8:15am start time.

Grades 3-6.

'COOL'inary Cooking Club - Thursdays 8:00-9:00am

 Instructor: Sticky Fingers Cooking | $295 for 8 sessions (materials included).

It’s THYME to turnip the beet on what kids eat 🌎🍴 In this interactive after-school cooking club, students will dive deeper into the culinary world — mastering chopping skills, exploring world cuisines, and learning how science, math, and culture connect through food. With fun, scratch-made recipes each week, kids will build independence in the kitchen while discovering just how tasty healthy cooking can be. Every class ends with the best part — eating and enjoying together! All recipes are nut-free and allergy-friendly.

Crochet Club - Thursdays 8:00-9:00am

CRES Instructor: Ms. Zavrel and Ms. Daneshkhah | $185 for 8 sessions (materials included).

Learn a lifelong skill!  We will cover the basics of crochet with beginners while returning club members work on advanced stitches and patterns.  There is a new project for each level every season, so all students are challenged to create!

Mudskippers Pottery - Thursdays 4:15-5:15pm

Instructor: Mudskippers Pottery | $215 for 8 sessions.

Shake off those Winter blues with Mudskippers Pottery’s Spring session! We’ll make a variety of hand built projects using stoneware clay, fired bisque and modeling clay. Students will even get a chance to glaze their own work which is sure to make it a memorable masterpiece!

CRES Mural - Thursday 4:15-5:15pm

CRES Instructor: Ms. Wiseman | $165 for 8 sessions.

Get your painting fingers ready! Collaborate with your peers to design a CRES mural outside of the art room. Students will work together to develop a creative idea for a mural design and use painting techniques to produce a beautiful CRES mural.

Kids Tennis Club - Thursday 4:15-5:15pm

Instructor: Over Time Athletics| $180 for 6 sessions.

Swing Into Fun! Serve, rally, and smile with Kids Tennis Club — the perfect way for young players to learn the game of tennis in a fun, active, and encouraging environment. Using kid-friendly equipment like low-compression balls and smaller courts, participants build skills and confidence while staying on the move and loving the game.

Hip Hop Dance - Fridays 8:00am-9:00am 

Instructors: Kids in Motion | $200 for 8 sessions.

This class is a high energy, exciting dance fitness class, with an emphasis on hip hop music and dances. Classes are set up with kid friendly music, movements, and routines. They will learn choreography to about three songs per class. In addition to a dance workout, they will end the class with a super fun dance game, such as freeze dance, dancing 4 corners, follow the leader, and the like! Instructors are experienced dance fitness teachers and all instructors receive further training through Kids in Motion lead teachers.

Design Squad - Fridays 8:00am-9:00am 

CRES Instructor: Ms. Allen and Ms. Blackwell | $145 for 6 sessions.

Come join Ms. Blackwell and Ms. Allen as you use your engineering skills to design and create solutions for weekly problems. This class allows students to utilize critical and creative thinking strategies while also enjoying creating and implementing their own inventions.

Artistic Drawing - Fridays 4:15- 5:15pm

Instructor: Young Rembrandts| $195 for 8 sessions.

Artistic and the Cartooning drawing program combined the Artistic and the Cartooning curriculums to encourage your child’s enthusiasm for art with a great sense of humor. The Young Rembrandts™ artistic curriculum uses a structured stepwise format to teach elementary students useful drawing skills, focusing on artistic expression. Young Rembrandts™ Cartooning curriculum breaks down objects and ideas into simple shapes, then use exaggeration, caricature, and personification to playfully construct the animated characters in humorous settings.

Olympic Fencing - Friday 4:15-5:15pm

Instructor: NoVA Fencing Club | $225 for 8 sessions.

Young Musketeers Fencing & Robin Hoods Archery: Young Musketeers introduces kids (beginners & returning) to fencing! These one-hour classes focus on: Essential skills: Footwork, bladework, strategy, and fencing rules, Fun drills & games: Learn fencing basics in a fun, engaging way, Coordination & fitness: Build speed, endurance, and critical thinking, All in a safe environment with age-appropriate equipment. Bonus! After 5 weeks, transition to Young Robin Hood’s Archery! Young Robin Hoods (Archery): Hit the Target Like a Hero! Become a master archer like Robin Hood! Learn archery basics in a safe, fun program. Use kid-friendly bows and soft-tipped arrows to hit the target and build skills. Be a hero, have a blast!

Plus, all classes are led by experienced instructors who make learning a blast!

The Young Investors Club - Friday 4:15-5:15pm

Former CRES grad instructor: Isaac Bockman | $150 for 4 sessions.

The Young Investors Club is a small-group club open to 5th and 6th grade students interested in learning about investing (maximum of 6 students). Students will learn how stocks work, what drives prices, and how to make smart investment choices through games, discussions, and simulations. They will explore key investment concepts such as risk vs. reward, diversification, and long-term growth. Each student will learn how to research a real company and build a mock portfolio. The club will be led by a former CRES student, now a Langley High School student, along with a parent. Since the class filled so quickly in the fall, I am offering a similar spring curriculum so that students who wanted to take the fall class but didn't get a spot can take it now!

Grades 5-6
