BASA Spring 2023 Class Descriptions
Artistic Drawing
Mondays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Young Rembrandts | $170 for 8 sessions.
This class will provide fun and educational drawing lessons for children to encourage process learning and develop critical thinking skills. Learning to develop and apply patterns is the focus. Our artists will venture out into the wild as they create an intricate zebra drawing. Later, our students will learn about cool and warm colors with the patterned flowers lesson and realism with the tower bridge. Our art history lesson focuses on Gustav Klimt. Of course, it wouldn’t be spring without a drawing of new baby bunnies and a fawn. If you think your student is wanting to be an architect, they will love our city skyline lesson. Grades K-3.
Basketball
Mondays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Overtime Athletics (OTA) | $150 for 8 sessions.
3-2-1…Swish! Join us for Fast Break Basketball where we’ll “cross-over” between GAME PLAY and skills stations. The games within the game are where we will expose players to HOOPS skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense. Test your abilities by having fun scrimmaging or playing games like Dribble Scribble, King of the Court, Knock Out, and MORE! Grades K-2.
Flag Football
Mondays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Flagstar | $150 for 8 sessions.
This program will teach students the basics of football along with competing in fun, active drills. This is a low-pressure environment, and all are welcome. Boys and girls. Rookies or Pros. All you'll need are a pair of sneakers, a bottle of water, and a positive attitude! We will always end each session with a scrimmage! Grades 2-6.
Coding
Tuesdays 8:00-9:00am
CRES Instructor: Mrs. Dunning | $145 for 8 sessions.
Join Mrs. Dunning for an introduction to coding. With a mixture of plugged and unplugged lessons, we will explore sequencing, events, and loops. We will work toward an understanding of conditionals and variables. Most importantly, we will have fun doing it!! Grades K-1.
Sign Language
Tuesdays 8:00-9:00am
CRES Instructor: Ms. Carroll | $135 for 8 sessions.
During the eight weeks, students will learn about American Sign Language. They will be introduced to basic greetings and sayings to help introduce themselves to those in the deaf community. They will also learn signs for the months, numbers, places, colors, and foods. Students will work on the structure of sentences in ASL so that they are able to hold a meaningful conversation. Grades 3-6.
Karate
Tuesdays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Kaizen Karate | $185 for 8 sessions.
This Karate program offers safe, structured training that teaches students the proper form, style and technique. Classes are tailored to student’s individual needs and help them to grow to their fullest potential. Karate not only focuses on instruction, but also provides valuable lessons related to respect, discipline, motivation, self-control, confidence and continual improvement. Grades K-2.
Pickleball
Tuesdays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Overtime Athletics (OTA) | $150 for 8 sessions.
The pickleball action is spreading fast! Kids will get their first exposure to the fastest growing sport in America. Players will be introduced to the equipment, simple ball striking, game fundamentals, court safety and etiquette. You'll learn the rules of the game, grip, serving, volleying, forehand and backhand strokes. This class will work on hand eye coordination, footwork and concentration while participating in game-play and stations. Player favorites like Around the World, Popcorn, and Sky Ball will keep classes energized and FUN and give beginner players plenty of opportunities to build their confidence…Game, Set, Match! Grades 1-3.
Run Club
Wednesdays 8:15-9:00am
CRES Instructors: Ms. Bunch, Ms. Abernathy, Ms. White | $175 for 8 sessions (materials included).
Spring is the perfect time to get outdoors and in shape! Come Wednesday mornings to train as part of the Colvin Runners. Students will build endurance and confidence and will learn to push themselves further than they thought possible, while having fun with their friends. They will build towards an unofficial 5K by the end of the session. A Colvin Runners t-shirt is included. Please note 8:15am start time. Grades 3-6.
Crocheting
Wednesdays 8:00-9:00am
CRES Instructor: Ms. Matthews | $160 for 8 sessions (materials included).
Mix learning a lifelong skill with service learning! Students will learn how to crochet a hat, scarf, or blanket while also participating in a community donation of blankets. The crocheted blankets will be donated to local families in need through our local emergency rescue offices. Students will learn basic crochet stitches, common motifs and patterns. Grades 3-6.
LEGO Building Club
Wednesdays 4:15-5:15pm
CRES Instructors: Ms. Crewalk and Ms. Miskinyar | $150 for 8 sessions (materials included).
Show your creativity as you build LEGO creations. Each week will offer a different project theme, including Boat Races (build a sailboat to race with box fan “wind”), building a Bridge that can withstand certain weights, Tree Forts, and building while blindfolded. While having fun with LEGOS, students will find their inner designer, engineer or inventor. This is the ideal class for any LEGO-maniac! Grades K-2.
Yoga
Wednesdays 4:15-5:15pm
CRES Instructor: Mr. Bittner | $145 for 8 sessions.
Yoga is a fantastic way for your child to unwind after a long school day! In this hour-long yoga class, students will improve their flexibility, strength, coordination, and also promote balance and relaxation. Please bring a yoga mat and a water bottle and come discover the magic of yoga. Grades 3-6.
Orange Wand Magic
Thursdays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: The Ultimate Magic Academy | $255 for 8 sessions (materials included).
Learn a new set of Magic Skills this session, with the Orange Wand Magic program. Get ready to take an amazing adventure into the exciting world of magic. Learn how to teleport objects across the room, find hidden magical treasures and levitate a cup of popcorn just to name a few. In this course students will learn the three parts that make up a magic trick with a special focus on presentation. More importantly they will discover the real secrets to becoming a true magician as each lesson reveals an important life skill to help build their confidence and communication skills. Each lesson comes with a custom magic prop, a top secret file folder, and a secret word to unlock bonus videos in an online video vault. This life changing program builds self-confidence and develops critical communication skills in a fun and unique way that is guaranteed to unlock your child’s potential and impact the rest of their life. Grades 2-6.
Cheerleading
Thursdays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: Overtime Athletics(OTA) | $150 for 8 sessions.
Rope Motion creates Emotion! Take your spirit to a higher level! Learn routines, cheers, motions and jumps that promote teamwork, fitness and FUN. We'll work on basic cheer and dance movements that have participants smiling from ear to ear and bouncing from head to toe! We bring the sidelines to center stage with cheers that include: “Who Rocks the House”, “G-O Yell GO”, “Dynamite”, and many more. Our pyramid of activity will include cheers, routines, jump roping, and warm up games. Grades: K-3.
Olympic Fencing
Fridays 4:15-5:15pm
Instructor: NoVA Fencing Club | $185 for 8 sessions.
Classes are conducted in the discipline of epee. Students will use standard fencing gear approved by the U.S. Fencing Organization. Fencing foils are lighter, more flexible and easier for children to handle. Students will focus on the fundamentals including footwork, handwork, strategy and rules of fencing. Classes will include group exercises as well as drills in pairs and bouting. Age-appropriate games and activities build on conditioning, speed and endurance and also emphasize critical thinking and quick decision-making. Proper covid protocols will be followed (i.e., all gear will be sanitized prior to use, equipment will not be shared, etc.). At the end, a tournament will be held. All levels of experience are welcome. Grades K-6.
